The Secondary School of the International School of The Hague is a busy and vibrant community where our students develop all-round personal excellence through our rigorous academic programmes, a strong pastoral (wellbeing) programme and a wide-ranging extra-curricular programme.

Our academic programme is based on three International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes: Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (IBDP) and Career-related Programme (IBCP). Our Vice Principal Academic, oversees a highly experienced team of deputy heads (programme coordinators) and subject area leaders who implement a very wide range of subjects and interdisciplinary projects. EAL and Learning Support departments provide support students with specific language and learning needs.

Students’ wellbeing is taken very seriously, with a dedicated wellbeing department as well as a comprehensive pastoral programme. Each student is assigned to a Mentor in a group of between 20 and 25 students. The teams of mentors, year leaders and deputy heads (pastoral) are overseen by our Vice Principal Pastoral.

Extra-curricular activities at ISH are extremely diverse. As an IB school we are particularly committed to providing opportunities for service learning. We also believe strongly in the value of experiential learning in general, and so we have a Vice Principal Service and Experiential Learning, who’s wide-ranging role helps us ensure the holistic development of our students. 

The many examples of extra-curricular activities include such things as sports at the International Schools Sports Tournament (ISST), our own Model United Nations (MUNISH) and Greening the ISH for which we have achieved the prestigious Green Flag Status. Our 350 seat auditorium hosts plays and concerts throughout the year. The Hague is the International City of Peace and Justice and we utilize our location well to incorporate the many opportunities that are present in the city to supplement our curricula. Many student-initiated projects are also to be seen in action around the school on a daily basis.

With over 80 nationalities studying at the school, we are proud of our cultural diversity. As our new mission statement says, we are Curious, Connected and Compassionate: inspiring personal excellence in our strong and diverse community.

Students qualify to attend our school if they are: children from other countries who are part of the mobile international community and children from Dutch families who have been internationally mobile and need to be educated in an international school to ensure continuity of education.
